Chris Pena

On Wednesday, September 6, Chris Pena, an avid bike rider, was doing what he loved best, riding his bicycle. Tragically, a speeding vehicle ran the red light at the Carlos Bee/Mission Blvd. intersection and struck Chris on his bike. The driver fled the scene and police are still searching for the driver and vehicle.

Chris Pena died from his injuries. He was only 55 years old. Chris was incredibly smart, friendly and genuine. He was known by all his neighbors and was loved by everyone! His family and friends are devastated from his senseless death. Chris leaves behind his beautiful wife of almost 23 years and three amazing kids, Lucy (21), Maggie (19) and Jonah (16). Lucy, who turned 21 the day before her father was killed, is a year away from graduating from Cal Berkeley. Maggie is a sophomore at UC Davis and Jonah is a junior at Hayward High School.

For those that do not know me, my name is Derrick Lobo and my family and I are close friends with the Penas. We met when our kids were at Stonebrae Elementary and bonded at T-Ball & Little League. Chris was part of the WatchDOGS (a dad's group that made it our mission to be more involved in our kids' school while at Stonebrae). On behalf of Joyce Pena, I started this fundraiser to help her cover Chris' funeral expenses. Any leftover funds will go towards meeting the kids' educational needs. I will manage the funds for Joyce and all donations will be transferred to her bank account as soon as I receive it from GoFundMe.
