Amanda Calder's Recovery Fund

My name is Carolyn Eyerly. In 2011, a young woman walked into our business to apply for a job, (a full service car wash and detail center.) Since the majority of our employees are male, I was curious about her interest in working at the Ankeny Auto Spa. She said she had seen the help wanted sign and needed a job. It really was that simple. When I told her how very hot this job can be in the summer and incredibly cold during the winter months (winter in Iowa can be brutal), she said, "That's okay, I like being outside." When I told her she would need to wear steel toe boots, she said, "My friend has some I can borrow." She seemed to have the right attitude so I said, "Okay, let's see what ya got!"
Four years later, I am proud to call Amanda Calder not only one of my very BEST employees, but a dear friend whom we consider family to my husband Rick and myself.
On Christmas Eve, Amanda was coming in for a shift at the car wash and was in a devasting automobile accident involving her and one other car. Fortunately, the occupant(s) of the other vehicle were not harmed seriously. However, Amanda is currently in the ICU at a local hospital with very serious injuries.  I am absolutely heartbroken for her and her family. Amanda is not only a dedicated employee, she is also an amazing mother of 3 children, as well as a full time student. This accident will be a terrible set-back to her education, as well as her family's finances.
We have watched this young woman from the beginning of her journey to achieve her college diploma.  What some would call sacrifice, she considers to be an honor. Her children are loved beyond words, and her friends are all treated as family.
We are asking for assistance with Amanda's inevitable medical bills, rent, utilities, child care and future transportation.
Her recovery will take months, and though she has a wonderful support system of family and friends, there are limited resources to attack the type of debt an accident like this will ultimately create.
As with everything she does, we are confident Amanda will persevere and return to her children, school and work as soon as humanly possible. We are asking for your monetary help for Amanda so she can concentrate on healing and return to the life she has worked so hard to achieve, (did I mention she has a 3.8 GPA?)
