Support Max’s fight against Leukemia

Donation protected
On Friday, January 17, Maxon Romero was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). The previous day, Max had complained that he was having trouble breathing. His mom took him to the emergency room expecting a routine check up. Upon receiving alarming lab test results he was admitted to the hospital for an emergency bone marrow biopsy, revealing his AML diagnosis a mere 24 hours later.

As an 8th grader at Rocky Mountain Expeditionary School in Denver, Max is a gifted athlete. At 14, he’s already 6’ tall and plays for a local basketball team as a power forward. And he has a personal goal of playing varsity basketball at Denver’s East High School.

The treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) involves an intensive, 5-8 month, inpatient program that starts with Chemotherapy. Max is beloved by his community of friends, teammates, neighbors, his cat and two dogs, and most of all by his family of two households, Mom Amy Gage, Dad Curtis Romero, and sister Eliza.

Supporting their son in his healing journey will require Amy and Curtis to take an extended leave from their jobs, which will cause significant financial strain on top of the emotional weight of supporting their son. Your support will help cover their living expenses, medical costs not covered by insurance, and everyday necessities.

No contribution is too small, and every contribution and campaign share means the world to Max, Amy, and Curtis during this life-altering time. Thank you for standing with Max and his family, giving him the best chance to beat AML.

Please hold him in positive thoughts of health and healing and getting him closer to his goal of getting back on the court!
