Help Brisbane South’s Koala Rescuer John Knights
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Caitlin and I volunteer with John to rescue the koalas of Brisbane’s South.
Urban development has caused koalas to become displaced and at risk, having to cross roads and yards. John provides a 24 hour timely response to koala rescues unlike many other services which do not operate after 10 pm and/or have significant waiting times.
John is a retired pensioner who completes this work as a volunteer so is not paid to be available 24/7 or for expenses such as fuel and vehicle maintenance. Equipment for rescues such as cages or telescopic poles come at a cost of $500-$2000 per item.
Since the start of August, John has personally attended 104 koala callouts to assess, rescue, relocate or transport them to hospital. He drives approximately 1,200 km each week in his personal vehicle which costs him $200-$300 in fuel and also increases the frequency and cost of vehicle servicing.
Please consider donating to assist him with costs such as fuel, vehicle maintenance and rescue equipment to help him to continue rescuing as many of our endangered koalas as possible.
We successfully reached our second target of $15000 to assist with koala rescue equipment and fuel. This is beyond our expectations! Thank you all so much. We have increased the target to $20,000 to help John purchase a van.
Alternatively, do you or someone you know work in car sales and would like to help us get John a car? Send me a message.
John’s car is 24 years old and has done over 700,000km. It is falling apart and his biggest expense.
John also accepts Ampol fuel vouchers via Prezzee. Simply go to www.prezzee.com.au, search Ampol voucher, select donation via email. John’s email can be found in the update section
