Race for the Reef 2024 - Save Kahalu'u Bay
Donation protected
If you live in Kona or have visited, most likely you have had a chance to snorkel in Kahalu'u Bay. You may have seen the Reef Teach volunteers working to stop visitors from wearing toxic sunscreen in the bay, which adversely affects the coral. Two years ago, the Kona Newbies group sponsored the mineral sunscreen dispenser, so visitors could use free and healthy sunscreen. We raised the funds by holding a fun run in March. The need to protect the Bay is greater than ever and Reef Teach/Kohala Center is asking for our help once again.
The newly formed 365 Hawaii Island Community Fund will be holding the 5k race on March 17th to begin at the Kahalu'u Bay Pavilion at 7:30 am and conclude with refreshments and information about volunteer opportunities.
Racers need to sign liability releases, so pls be there by 7:15 am.
We are looking for runners, donations and volunteers! Runners are asked to make a $30 donation to cover insurance and aid stations, but please donate more if you would like!
By participating, you are helping a gem of our community, Kahalu'u Bay, stay healthy for future generations AND learn more about our marine environment.
