Rachel Nystrom

My name is Marija Johansson. I'm starting this fundraiser in honor of my dearest friend, Rachel Nystrom, who passed away at the age of 33 at home on Saturday, September 24th with her loving husband, Andrew Schueller, by her side.

Rachel was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age 14. Shortly after marrying Andrew in September of 2017, she had emergency surgery and had been fighting medical battles attributed to Crohn’s disease since. Rachel flew to Chicago to have surgery on two separate occasions in 2020 and 2022 and was receiving care top-notch care from specialists at the University of Chicago.

After being released from the hospital following her most recent surgery in Chicago, she was able to return home to Minnesota where she would continue healing from her surgery with PT. While recovering at home, she experienced a cardiac arrest and was taken to Fairview Hospital in Edina where she would spend the next 3.5 weeks until it was evident that Rachel's body was too weak to recover. The decision was made to bring Rachel home where she could spend time with her husband, family, and fur babies (Scout and Henri).

The donations received in honor of Rachel will help provide her family with financial relief as they celebrate her life and plan her memorial service. Rachel was a generous spirit and we thank you for any donation made on her behalf.
