IPWR18, 5500km Cycling Race
Donation protected
I have been selected to compete in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race 2018, a 5500km solo unsupported cycling race from Fremantle to Sydney. https://www.indianpacificwheelrace.com/
Most people I have spoken to believe I am crazy for attempting such a challenge. Those who know me understand I am extremely competitive and give 110% at any race I take on. I am always looking for the next adventure and I don't believe they get much bigger than this! I'm excited to be selected and am looking forward to the challenges I am going to face along the way.
To be competitive in this event I have had to purchase all new equipment and bike. I do not expect anyone to assist with covering these costs as I will be able to reuse all equipment and gear post IPWR 18. However due to the investment made so far, I do need assistance with travel, accomodation and food costs associated with doing the race.
On average I will be riding between 350-450kms per day. The energy required to continue day after day for approx 14-17 days is extreme and I will be fueling this with food from service stations, milk bars and the occasional country pub. Most nights I will be sleeping out in the elements in my bivy, but an occasional stop at a hotel would be nice to be able to have a shower, as I am not carrying a change of clothes. Finally there is the travel and accomodation costs in getting to Fremantle and once I arrive in Sydney. I will most likley need a few days to recover before I will be able to travel back to Melbourne.
You will be able to track my progress and position in the race, day and night by clicking on the link below. (Link has not yet been released by race organisers. I will add it as soon as it is!) I will also be providing regular updates on my Instagram page @ryzza1976, please subscribe and join me on the journey across our great land!!
So I humbly ask for your assistance in any way you can help. Any company donations over $250 will be entitled to a sticker with their logo printed and placed on my bike. I will also reference your company along my ride.
Any other requests to help me generate revenue, feel free to contact me.
Finally, Mel and I have recently had a very close friend diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I am pledging that any money I raise above my goal or funds not required to complete the race, will be donated to the McGrath Foundation who raise funds to assist with providing breast care nurses to cancer sufferers. McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals (and their families) experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support. From the time of diagnosis, and throughout treatment, this support is available for free.
Knowing how to support a friend throughout this experience feels impossible.
Hopefully by raising some money we can help to indirectly support many families and friends that are also facing this impossible task.
Thanks for your help,
Ryan.
