Radioactive Iodine Treatment for Beans

Hi, Beans is a productive member of the community, contributing by providing content photos for her mother's social media and workplace pet Slack channel.

Unfortunately, her thyroid didn't get the message that she needed to be in peak form at all times.

All jokes aside, Beans was diagnosed with hyperthyroid on Monday, 8/29 and immediately began to take medication for it (one pill, twice a day). She was taking it like a champ, and everything seemed like it was going well, but over the last 2 days, her appetite has gone to next to none, and she is barely moving around she's so lethargic. The vet told me to stop the medication because a small percentage don't respond to it, and it can be dangerous to them.

So she's off the pills and the next option is to get her radioactive iodine treatment.

RI treatment is a one-and-done solution to hyperthyroidism in cats. It's an injection that attacks the tumor and kills it outright (that's how I understand it, at least). She goes in for a shot and comes home the next day. No pills for the rest of her life. Just the injection. I didn't want to do this right away because it's expensive, and if I could give her pills easily, that was going to be a much more cost-effective of a solution.

Like everything, it's expensive. Over $2,000 expensive.
