If you met our brother, Johnny Squire, you'd never forget him. He was a writer, a poet, an entertainer, an advocate for social justice and a deeply empathetic human being. He was truly was one in a million. Sadly, Johnny struggled with drug addiction for many years; this addiction cut his life short at the age of 25. Through his decade long fight with this disease, he never lost hope. He answered the challenges of his life every day with the most positive attitude; he never stopped supporting his friends, lifting up those around him, and found what was special in every person he met. Johnny helped to change the way people see the world. The unconditional love he showed to each person gives us the strength and courage to fight for the ideals which he held most sacred, mainly kindness, equality, and justice.

Johnny felt a responsibility to those who were suffering and he always did his best to help others in need despite his own hardship. He taught us that we are capable of using our resilient spirits to help heal the world. We are continuing Johnny’s legacy of love, joy of living, and never-give-up attitude by starting Fighting Addiction Together: In Memory of Johnny Squire, an organization with the mission to support people struggling with addiction. The funds will be used to raise awareness about addiction, to promote action to help combat addiction, and to support organizations which are dedicated to fighting the disease.

We sincerely appreciate a gift of any amount that will work towards helping those who suffer from the illness of addiction, which has reached staggering proportions in our community and country. Johnny had always hoped to help others who struggle with the disease of addiction. Fighting Addiction Together: In Memory of Johnny Squire will honor his wish.

One of the final posts Jonathan wrote was, “We are all in together. Helping a fellow human, foe, friend or stranger is the most selfless act we can do in this world.” Please help us continue Johnny's legacy by showing compassion and understanding for those who are battling addiction.
