Rafael Cantu- COVID Medical Expenses

Rafael Cantu tested positive for COVID on January 10th, 2021. Shortly after, he began to experience symptoms, including a worsening cough. Rafael was taken to the emergency room on January 17th with decreased oxygen levels, and was admitted for COVID pneumonia. With each day his health continued to decline, and was eventually intubated and put on a ventilator due to developing severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). After 13 days of being on the ventilator, and with Rafael’s health declining further, he had to be placed on an ECMO machine which is another form of life support that would replace the function of his lungs, giving his own, time to rest. Unfortunately his lungs were so severely damaged by COVID, that doctors have told us that he will be needing a double lung transplant in order to make a full recovery.  Rafael continues to fight for his life today, and although he has undergone many obstacles throughout his hospital stay, he has continued to show immense strength and a will to survive!

Rafael will remain hospitalized for some time and has a long road to recovery before and after he is able to return home. We continue to have faith and pray that Rafael will recover and will one day be able to return home to his wife (Cassandra), and his family!
