Rafael's journey to ISU

I am thrilled to share that I’ve been admitted to the International Space University’s Space Studies Program (SSP25) this summer in Seoul, South Korea!
you: "Why should I care?"
For those who don't know me, my name is Rafael Estrada and since I was young, I have always been the "space guy". Throughout my life, I've always known I wanted to work in the space industry. This led me to pursue my degree in mechatronics engineering from Western University and HBA from Ivey Business School.
I dedicated my undergrad to gaining exposure to the space industry. I was a member of the Western Satellite Team, where I helped design parts for our 3U CubeSat and learned about the technology and innovation involved within the field of satellites.
In 2023, I was selected as a Zenith Pathways Fellow, a fellowship that introduced me to many connections across the Canadian space industry. This program opened doors that I had never imagined and introduced me to friends and mentors who encouraged me to take my journey to a global level.
you: "So what do you want?"
SSP is an intensive 9-week course covering technical and non-technical concepts relating to space. The SSP alumni network (over 5800 international, multidisciplinary alumni) sits at the forefront of innovation in the global space industry. This is an opportunity to learn the intricacies of the space economy, connect with motivated professionals, and work towards building a career in the industry.
The cost of the program is €20,000. While I have been awarded a scholarship from the European Space Agency valued at half the cost, I am left with about CA$15,000 to raise by April 2025.
I am reaching out to my community if you wish to support my journey financially. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
you: "Why would I donate to you?"
I understand that it is a significant ask and I appreciate you for reading this far. Even if your support cannot be financial, helping spread awareness by sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to me.
In an attempt to motivate the next generation of space explorers, I will be documenting the journey of SSP on Instagram @estrada.space. I will be sharing space things that I find cool and might interest you.
Thank you so much for helping me chase my dream of one day building our future in space!
