Rafi (Afghani Translator) and Family
Donation protected
***UPDATE 8/30/2021***
First, I need to express my deepest and sincere appreciation for all who have already donated and showed their support.
With the help of several people and agencies, we were able to get Rafi's 14 family members (including children and infants) out of Kabul. The family is currently in Qatar waiting for U.S. visas to be issued. We remain hopeful that we will be able to get the family to the United States very soon, yet also know that this is a lengthy and time consuming process. In the meantime, we continue to diligently work around the clock to help them obtain their visas and to prepare the multitude of resources that will be essential upon their arrival.
The family had hid in fear for their lives and witnessed atrocities that many could not imagine. They have nothing with them except the clothing they were wearing when they fled, leaving everything behind. Relocating them will require a lot of resources and support. If you can donate, your contribution will be going toward the costs of helping the family as they transition and resettle, in addition to the continued support for Rafi now that he is home.
***UPDATED 8/22/2021***
Rafi was my translator in Afghanistan. He came to the United States after his service during the war. He recently returned to Afghanistan in order to try to save his brothers and family. In doing so, he was trapped in the country's capitol, surrounded by Taliban gunmen seeking to kill him for assisting our country.
Even facing death, all Rafi had asked for was for help in order to take care of his family in the United States, and to help get the rest of his family out of the country; they are all in imminent danger as they are literally being hunted down by the enemy.
After days of trying to get to the airport where he had clearance to board a U.S. plane, Rafi was able to make it home to his wife and children today. He had hid for days and made several attempts to safely get to the base, but each time was forced to turn back when faced with multiple Taliban check points; he faced gunfire, was beaten and injured in these attempts. He was in need of medical attention, but is doing well.
The new challenge is getting the rest of his family out of this horrific nightmare, and helping to establish a fund for him and his remaining family still trapped in Afghanistan. They will need all possible resources from the initial extraction from Afghanistan, and then again when they relocate to the U.S..
I appreciate beyond measure all of your help in bringing Rafi home and I need your support now for him and his family, as well. Please help if you can.
