Rainy Goes to College!
As featured This American Life, Rainy is a very courageous young woman from Brooklyn who survived a five-year long abusive relationship she got into as a 14-year-old. She's now looking to move forward with her life.
As is common in teen abusive relationships, Rainy's ex-boyfriend wouldn't allow her to go to high school. Since leaving him, Rainy has graduated and now lives out of state. She would like to start her next chapter by going to community college to work toward her degree.
We are a group of Rainy supporters who were very touched by her story and wanted to create a platform for everyone who heard her story to contribute toward her bright future. We reached out to the Radio Rookies program at WNYC and they put us in contact with her.
Rainy will be the first woman in her family to get a college degree and she is really interested in political science, law, medicine and journalism. She hopes to study abroad in Zambia to experience another culture. She is planning on taking courses in community college this spring and would like to transfer to a four-year university next year.
This is a terrific opportunity to be part of a positive future for an intelligent, thoughtful and deserving young woman, please join the community of Rainy supporters!
