Raise a Flag Bay City

5/23/19 Update:
This afternoon we received the remaining $4,000 of our initial $12,000 goal from Go  To Transport on Washington Ave.!   This fundraiser, I'm happy to say, is complete!

Thanks to everyone that has been spreading the word and donating through various channels, you're the best!  Make sure you check out Columbus and Washington Ave this coming Monday after all 200 brand new flags are installed.

5/22/19 Update:  Thanks to  the Gougeon Employees Foundation $2,500! McDonald's $500! York Electric $100! Theresa Weaver $200! Chuck Hewitt  $120! Kara's Mane Event $100!  Doug's Plumbing $200! Keith Markstrom $100! Jake's Corner Lounge $100! George's Auto $50! Jim Schultz $60!  Judy Soehnel $100!  These individuals have donated outside of the GoFundMe campaign, as that happens we are lowering our online goal to match the overall funds raised.  We started at $12,000 and are currently in need of only $4,405.  Hyland's Hopeless helped us put up the existing flags last night throughout downtown.  The 200 brand new sets will be installed this Saturday and Sunday down Columbus Ave and Washington Ave.  Thanks for everyone's help so far, your community appreciates it.

Update:  We've almost reached 20% of our goal in only a few days.  $1,000 donation from the Columbus Avenue Business District, $250 from McLaren, $50 from Don Carlyon, $500 from Michael Dreizen is shifting our online goal of $12,000 to $10,200 because of outside donations.  We are currently at $10,200 on this GOFUNDME page and will be dropping accordingly when we get additional donations outside of what appears here .  :) Hyland's Hopeless is gearing up to help us make quick work of putting the 200 new flag sets up, there are only 17 more days until Memorial Day, don't delay, donate today!

Beautify Bay City

Inspired by my brother (SFC) Ari Golden's recent 50th Birthday 5-3-2019 and the selfless service of countless members of our community who have served in the military, we will be raising funds to expand the Raise a Flag project in Bay City.  With the recent approval of the Columbus Avenue Business District we will be adding 100 new American flag sets down the avenue in time for Memorial Day!

Project history - In 2009, when Avram Golden's brother  Ari Golden (May 3rd, 1969 - December 31st, 2015) was being deployed to the Iraq War, his family decided to have a going away party. Traveling from Bay City - their childhood home and Avram's permanent residence - and arriving in the small town of Lainsburgh MI where Ari, his wife Traci and their 3 children resided, the American Flags that lined the Lainsburgh streets made a visually profound impression on Avram and he immediately determined to organize a similar presence in our town inspired by his brother Ari's service and his love for his hometown . Bay City's Tall Ship Celebration and Fireworks Festival were coming that next summer which seemed the perfect time to initiate such a project.  So he presented the idea to the Downtown Management Board and completed the approval process with the city of Bay City. In the project’s first year (2010), we proudly mounted 100 flags in historic downtown Bay City and have incrementally expanded the Raise A Flag presence each year.

We will also be adding 100 additional new flag sets in Downtown Bay City, the majority will be going down Washington Ave, with their new lamp posts being set in place just this year.  We will be filling in a few other areas throughout downtown, as well.

Countless individuals and organizations have helped out since this project began in 2009 and we couldn't thank you enough, including one of our main supporters in enthusiasm and labor these past few years, Hyland's Hopeless and Team RWB.  They have been organizing with us to put the flags up before Memorial Day and take them down for storage after Labor Day.

Even though these high quality flags are carefully removed and stored each Fall,
the life-cycle is only two years, so project funding remains ongoing.

The  American made flags are purchased from the American Legion Post 18 located at 700 Adams Street, Bay City, MI 48708

If you would like receive a tax deduction for your donation, please send a check to The Bay Veterans Foundation who is supportive of this project,  put in the memo line "Raise a Flag Bay City - in memory of Ari Golden".  They will make sure we get the money to put toward the Raise a Flag Bay City project.  mailing address : Bay Veterans Foundation  P.
