Raise a Roof for our Neighbor Shirley Parnell

Working together as a community to support our neighbor.

Hi, my name is Liz Pierotti. In 1990, when my husband and I moved into our home on 11th street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC, we were welcomed by the Holt family. Doris and John Holt had been homeowners on the block for 30 years already and had raised their family here. A lot has changed on 11th Street since then but we still count the Holt family among our neighbors. Shirley Parnell, the Holt's oldest daughter, now lives in the house on 11th Street with her disabled adult son and the family home needs a new roof. Our fundraiser is to help Shirley pay for a much-needed new roof.

One by one, the houses on this block have been renovated. New families have moved on to 11th Street to raise their families here. Capitol Hill neighbor, Jesse Connell, from Pitch Pine Building Company, has done much of the renovation work in the neighborhood. Jesse got to know Shirley when he lived on 11th Street with his family and being eager to help, he asked Rubin Flores from RDF Roofing company, to join the fundraiser. Rubin agreed to cut his overhead and markup costs to get the best price for a quality roof for Shirley. Jesse has even kicked off this fundraiser by pledging $1000. One thing that hasn't changed on 11th Street is our sense of community.

Please join us in supporting our neighbor by helping us raise the funds to secure a new roof for the Holt house on 11th Street in Washington, DC. We are hoping to raise $12,418. This will cover the cost of a complete new roof for Shirley and her son’s home.
