Raise funds for a Cork LGBTQ event space ️⚧️
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
If you, like me, have been disgusted by the whole Chambers fiasco (see below link) then I am looking to get some fundraising up and running, so we can provide an interim space for our LGBTQ+ entertainers to gather and put on a show for us every weekend where possible.
Gay culture has been embedded in Cork for many years. We are the home of the first LGBTQ+ bar in Ireland (Loafers), we have had an LGBTQ+ space since the 80's and it also home to the first council (Cork City) to propose and pass support for the marriage referendum we held and eventually passed in 2015.
Everyone of us knows the importance of have a safe social space to meet someone for a date, chat with friends, kiss your partner and generally be you. This is why this is important. Our drag queen entertainers have quit on masse from their home that LGBTQ+ people propped up for so long, and now the "Pink Pound and Patrons" are being shown the door with the actions of a group who should know the importance of having a safe social space.
Now is not a time to wallow in our sorrow that the LGBTQ+ community is being white washed from their own social space in Cork, but to use that anger and drive to organise and strategise to create a space of our own. Move away from a for profit agenda by a private interest group that have no interest in us.
This GoFundMe is being set up to achieve the following aims (with your help!):
- Work with local LGBTQ+ artists/DJ's and entertainers to bring a dedicated permanent LGBTQ+ event space in Cork.
- Where possible (depending on what is fundraised) find a permanent location for Cork's LGBTQ+ community.
Whatever you can donate, please chip in and let's find a new home for Cork's LGBTQ+ family.
Once we achieve our goal we will do a call out for a Cork LGBTQ+ Community Meeting to discuss venue options and spaces that can host this whole section of Cork life that are looking for a safe social space.
As a prominent member of the Cork LGBTQ+ Community I am happy to create this page and maybe nothing will come from it, and maybe something positive will. Let's see ️️⚧️
