Raise funds for Charlotte’s prosthesis and accessibility aid
Donation protected
Recently, one of my bestfriends, charlotte, developed a condition called compartment syndrome in her right leg. Despite many efforts from surgeons to save her leg, on Thursday 11th April, Charlotte underwent surgery for a below the knee amputation.
Charlotte is someone who despite her own struggles, continues to put others before herself. She is someone who is always able to make the best of a bad situation and never fails to have a smile on her face. Even over the past couple of weeks, through immense pain and anxiety, she has continued to make those around her laugh and smile. Until recently she worked in a primary school supporting children with additional needs and also did one to one work outside of school time. She has always found time to help those in need and has taken part in volunteer work over the years such as helping in an orphanage in Bulgaria, supporting the deaf community and offering respite care to parents with children with disabilities, just to name a few. This is just a small snippet of the wonderful, caring and selfless person she is.
While the NHS is able to provide prosthetics and wheelchairs and other accessibility products, these are just some of the aids that charlotte will need for the rest of her life and these need to be things that she is 100% comfortable with and may need duplicates of.
I am lucky enough to have had 5 years of friendship and support from charlotte. She has smiled with me on the good days and cried with me on the bad, always at the other end of the phone or by my side for whatever I need so it is only fitting that I am now fighting in her in her corner, like she always has been for me.
On 17/08/2024 I will be taking part in a skydive in Bridlington in order to raise funds for a prosthesis, custom made wheelchair and things to make her home accessible for her needs that will be needed in the months and years to come following her amputation. Any and all donations will be gratefully received in order to help make this goal a reality. A chance for me and others to give back to what this amazing girl has given
