Help Safwan Makarem's daughter with his funeral
Donation protected
It is with extreme sorrow and a heavy heart to announce the passing of Safwan Kabalan Makarem. Sadly, Safwan leaves behind his 15-year-old daughter Ameera and is further survived by his father Kabalan, brothers Mahran, Rashwan and sisters Nahida, Hanaa, Ikhlas and Rudaina and other family members who all reside in Syria. Safwan is further survived by Adam, a first cousin who resides here in Winnipeg Canada whom has been a blessing to Ameera through these tough times. Safwan is predeceased by his mother Zahia.
In discussions with his daughter Ameera before his passing, Safwan had expressed a desire that should anything happen to him, it would be his wish that his remains to be sent home to Syria where he could be laid to rest in the family’s burial plot. Unfortunately, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, this wish is no longer possible as Syria will not accept Safwan’s body for burial in his home land.
Since Safwan’s repatriation is no longer possible, we are asking to raise between $10,000 and $15,000 to help cover Safwan’s burial here in Canada and, to assist with Ameera’s continuing education. This financial responsibility would fall onto Ameera and, considering her age, we do not wish her to take on such a hardship. This is why we are asking for your assistance.
In your consideration, you should know that Safwan deeply loved his family and did often send money home to support them in their times of need.
Safwan had many close friends in Winnipeg that he has made through the years, along with the staff at Winnipeg City Transit where he was employed. He was loved and will be missed.
Ameera’s mom Cindy will look after the funds once raised.
