Donate to redevelop the Barracks in Keshcarrigan .

Do you want to join me in making a difference? We are raising money in aid of Keshcarrigan Development Association to redevelop the old Barracks in Keshcarrigan, Co Leitrim and every donation will help. This beautiful building dating from 1861 has been granted to the local community who plan to redevelop into a Community /Resource / Heritage Centre . The building has a long and storied history having served the local community since 1861 ,firstly as a RIC Barracks until 1923 when it became a Garda Barracks after the establishment of the Free State. In January 2024 Keshcarrigan Development Association Association was granted a long lease to redevelop the building. Plans include the provision of meeting rooms, working hubs, indoor/outdoor play areas , museum and cultural interpretative centre.
The village of Keshcarrigan is situated in Sth Co Leitrim in an area of unspoilt natural beauty located between Loch Scur and Kesh Lake in the shadow of the majestic Sliabh an Iarann Mountain and Sheebeg Hill. The village is transversed by the Shannon/ Erne Waterway and since its redevelopment there has been vast changes in the area. However, the village has held true to its rural values .
The old Garda Barracks is sited in the heart of the village and has been unoccupied since 2013. It has been a long held wish of the development association that the building should once again be of service to the local area as a badly needed community centre for a rapidly expanding population as well as a Heritage and Interpretative centre that could house and preserve the history of this unique village and environs.

Keshcarrigan and surrounding areas are rich in history and archaeology and it is proposed to showcase the timelined history of the area in the museum and heritage centre.
e.g....the Dolmen, Crannogs, Sheemore and Sheebeg cairns, the Battle of Connacht in 1270, the Keshcarrigan Bowl , the ancestral home of Fr Mychal Judge 1st official casualty of the terrorist attack in New York in 2001 . There is a Peace Park and Memorial dedicated to his memory in the village.
The Keshcarrigan Bowl , a 1st Century spun bronze ceremonial drinking bowl was found in the canal close to the village in 1852 and is now on display in the National Museum.
The association would be most grateful to receive donations towards this worthy cause from home and the Diaspora abroad to help bring our plans to fruition and preserve this beautiful building for present and future generations.
Thank you in advance.
