Raise the Roof for a Nurse
RAISE THE ROOF for a NURSE
Help a Community Hero!
We want to help a loving COVID nurse who needs some help, but is too kind to ask for it, and we want to surprise her by paying it forward! She showed us kindness, saved the lives of dogs, and saved the lives of people. It’s the least we can do to say Thank You.
The Background Story:
We met a lady about a year ago at a dog park. We took the dogs there to play and then she walked in with her two pups. We ended up chatting briefly and we learned she worked in the medical field. After she left, she ended up coming back in and handing us her phone number. She said she’d like to offer us a place for a warm shower and a warm place to stay for a cold night. This was our first encounter with someone who we would learn is an extremely generous person, one of those people that always gives to others.
When we arrived at her place we found ourselves at a little house in the desert. She had no heating or cooling and was very simplistic. She made us feel very comfortable and even made us hot coffee and some warm food. She also stayed up to chat with us. This was extra generous of her since she had limited resources and worked long hours. We got to share some stories and learned a lot more about her. We learned she was a nurse and that she loved dogs. I got the impression that she was a very authentic and kind person. We learned that she rescued her dogs and she volunteers in her free time to help dogs around the world to get adopted. She was a good soul. And we were pretty happy to have met her.
Then, we noticed she had an issue with her roof. So, we asked her about it. We learned that the roof needed fixed as soon as possible. We got concerned that if it wasn’t to be fixed soon it might leak or even worse cause her harm. It’s also not a job she could easily take on as a single female living alone. She told us she was trying to save up and figure out how to get it fixed.
Not long after, the great global pandemic COVID hit the world and began to really ramp up. A decent amount of time passed before we crossed paths with her again. Tehran we did, she tells us that she is working the COVID Ward. “COVID Ward?” we reply. She explains that they’ve had to designate an entire section to COVID patients and that she’s been working really long hard hours and many overnights over the year. She describes the craziness of the situation, and the emotional moments of recesitating the weak, and caring for the ill. She talks about all of the extra supplies she had to personally buy herself, as a result, such as upgraded masks and medical items. All the while, she gives off this hopeful, positive and loving vibe. And we’re just like, “Wow!”
Then, we ask her about her year. “What else is new? How’d the roof project go?” She goes on to tell us that in all the craziness of the past year, she’s had to put the project off but remains hopeful for the best and continues to save up.
So, we want to help this lady get a NEW ROOF! We can at least make it a little easier for her to get the project done, by alleviating some of the financial burden. There’s no reason our Real Heros out there should be putting in these long hours to save and serve us and our loved ones and not be able to afford a good roof over her head! So, let’s do it! Help us Raise the Roof for a Nurse!
If she needs any additional help with the project, we are also committing to be there and volunteer our time and hard work.
*Please note that I’ve avoided posting pictures or too much personal detail about her for privacy reasons as this is meant to be a surprise campaign. I’m hopeful that once we announce it to her, she will allow us to share this kind of content with everyone.
Please give what you can. If everyone simply gives a little, we can do A LOT! It will be a big help if you can simply share the campaign with friends and spread the word on Facebook and anywhere else possible.
Once it’s closed, we plan to set up a hidden camera (in a flower pot or something like that) and record the surprise by sitting her down near it and telling her: she’s getting a new roof!
