HELP “PRESERVE THE LEGACY” OF THE MONTFORD POINT MARINES

On behalf of The Montford Point Marine Association (MPMA) Chicago Chapter 2 members, we thank each and every person for their kind and thoughtful donations to help keep our Veteran’s facility open.

Through your generous donations especially Susanna Mendoza’s of 141,550 dollars, we are able to meet our tax obligations and with an excess of 90,000 dollars we will begin our building repairs. Unfortunately, we are not eligible for a tax exemption but we are trying to create new revenue streams. We are far from our goal to completely renovate the facility and we still need your helpto repair our veteran center. This will allow us to increase our revenue to expand existing programs and create new programs to serve our veterans and community.

Montford Point has received a new tax deadline of May 31, 2019.  This extension will allow Montford Point to further explore options of collaboration with other concerned entities that want to help Montford Point move forward with the building repair issues.

As you now know, the Montford Point Marines are WWII Veterans and the first African American to serve in the Marine Corps from August, 1942 to September, 1949 at a segregated boot camp located in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in June, 2012, they have a MLP, a naval vessel named for them in March, 2013 and a monument dedicated to their service in July, 2018. These WWII heroes deserve to have a place dedicated to preserving their legacy.

MPMA membership is open to all military veterans and active duty personnel, including a structure of support from their families within an Auxiliary and Society. We are humbly grateful for your concern and financial assistance through the Go Fund Me Page and other donations that have been made by mail and given in person directly to the Association.

We are asking you to spread the word, go to our GoFundMe page or www.montfordpointmarineschicago.org and donateto a center that is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the first African American Marines and educating the public about them. We honor our heroes through good thoughts, deeds and service by striving to create long lasting community and veteran programs that will hopefully outlive us all.

Once again, Thank You for your support of the Montford Point Marine Association.
