Raise the Wall for 112 Carlota Galgos
Donation protected
Safety for all first! The main issue of the wall is half the field wall and orchard wall going through to the arena and the side. Some 500 sq metres of wall is impacted. This is where the water can press against the wall with pressure from the field behind. This is the real danger which could make the wall fall like it did at the previous location.
Charlotte' words from April 26th
When the pressures on, it's on, and with a heavy heart it feels the force of nature can be against you. When protection and safety is everything held up with these walls it's hard to hear it tell you it's crumbling.
Some years ago now when there were massive floods all over Málaga the force of water in the field behind us brought down part of the finca wall like a tsunami and crossed over the field and the water ran into and knocked the other side of the wall down. And a good part of it at that. Leaving the finca vulnerable and at risk of theft. We didn't sleep for a long time. ( On the photo you can see the difference in paint, the lighter being the part that was reconstructed.)
Some years later we witnessed this winter with bad rainfall. The pressure from rain behind us in the field can stand a metre high when the rains come in tropical type storms. The amount of water that falls in a short time is incredible. The pressure on the wall from the rain water in the field pushes the remaining wall and has made it weak and fracture and crack. If it happens the remaining wall will give up, and fall. Releasing all safety of the galgos to vulnerability. The wall that's fractured and crumbling is some 500 square metres, and runs from the renovated part of the wall to the back of the orchard to the back of the arena and down to the right hand side.
To fix this is a mission, which through the nights leave me sleepless as it feels mission impossible... Dioni del Río asked his brother Elute for a helping hand on this mission and he will come to help rescue this mission but not for another month due to his own work commitments and they will do it between them. YIKES!!
The idea being is to build a new wall concrete blocks and new foundations but on the inside of the wall already there because we cannot be without a wall at all.
The finca needs its security and protection for those residing here and it's an extremely worrying situation to be in. In time we know rains will come again and we will be stuck. This winter faced rains which were harsh and caused floods everywhere again and the wall keeps the finca safe from such dangers. Without it there's no protection and danger is there.
With my head in my hands this feels heavy, the finca's in trouble of a serious wall repair which could cost safety to one and all. And I feel beside myself in fear and worry.
A sad sad Charl today.
