Hi,

My name is Miriam and I'm creating this fundraising event for my cousin Carlos Jose (19 years old) who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. My cousin was in his 2nd semester of Visual Arts at a University in Colombia, which he had to suspend due to his health.

Below you can read a summary on my cousin’s family and their history:

My aunt (Martha Prieto) and uncle (Carlos Avendaño) have been married for 33 years, they are the parents of 3 children (Cata, Nata, Carlos J) and they live in Bogotá, Colombia. At the moment, my uncle is the only one who is working (not permanently, just contract with no benefits)

In August 1, 2023, during my grandma's birthday celebration, Carlos Jose suddenly started losing control of his left arm making it difficult to put his glasses on. Immediately, he was rushed to the emergency department, as everyone thought that he was having a stroke; during the time there, many medical examinations which led to finding out the terrible news that he has a tumor in his brain. After the diagnostic, my cousin Carlos José Avendaño had a biopsy to determine what kind of tumor he had, and he was diagnosed with multi-center Glial malignant tumor in the brain. The brain tumor caused left hemiparesis, affecting his mobility and ability to eat as well. Due to the inability to eat, it was necessary to perform percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy. Concurrently, he received two sets of Chemotherapy & Radiotherapy treatments. He has been living at hospitals & home, with 24-hour nursing care, physiotherapies, speech-therapies, psychologist therapies and others. These out-of-pocket expenses for all the above treatments and necessary medical equipment has been a hard economic impact for my uncles.

At this moment, my uncles must turn to the generosity and solidarity of friends, acquaintances and benefactors who can support them to cover the expenses during this difficult time for his son's health.
