Raising funds for Sam Gilbert's cancer treatment
Donation protected
My pal Sam Gilbert was diagnosed with Stage IV Bowel Cancer in the Spring of 2024, and unfortunately the cancer had already spread to his liver and lymph nodes. Sam is married and has 2 kids, and at the tender age of 42, he's not about to give up.
Over the past year, Sam has undergone a brutal regime of treatment, including >20 cycles of chemotherapy, and now has to regularly attend St. George's, often staying overnight. As well as the physical and emotional toll, this has come with a hefty price tag.
Sam is one of the toughest, bravest people I know. He has done everything he can to fight this awful disease, keeping his chin up and inspiring those around him, but he needs our help. Sam's one of my oldest and best friends in the world, and I am desperate to do whatever I can for him...
...which is why I've decided to dust off the old running gear and sign up for the Jyväskylä half marathon on the 6th of September, here in Finland. I last ran a half marathon in 2009 (!), and before that I "ran" 2 full marathons...mostly at walking pace, interspersed with a lot of swearing.
I've spent much of the past 15 years sitting down. I expect this to be challenging, but my motivation is strong, and I know I'll be running for a great cause. Please give whatever you can- every penny will go towards helping Sam and his family.
My fundraiser is linked directly to Sam's, which has already done fantastically well. You can follow his progress here:
