Raising Funds For The Stone Foundation

Donation protected
Hello There!

6 people. 309 miles. Two countries. We’re cycling from London to Paris to raise money for The Stone Foundation.

When? 20th – 24th July 2022

What is The Stone Foundation?
The Stone Foundation was set up in 2015 in response to the severe lack of accommodation for those leaving care / supported housing. Generally, they aim to help people find somewhere to live, and to support them to keep their home once they have found it.

They do this by working in partnership with local authorities, social housing landlords and property owners to source a range of accommodation for people who may be unable to access it. More specifically, they provide guaranteed rental income for landlords / associations who may otherwise be unwilling to provide their housing – for a whole host of reasons; maybe the person who needs housing lacks a decent credit score, or perhaps they’re unemployed – whatever it is, if a person is struggling to find or maintain their home, the Stone Foundation wants to help. Beyond sourcing accommodation, The Stone Foundation provides their Ready Steady Rent initiative, a fun and interactive course on how to manage a home.

At the same time as doing all of that, The Stone Foundation is a registered charity, and would benefit from any donations no matter how small.

But who are we?
We’re a group of people from a range of backgrounds (and ages!), several of us work for a company called The Mavam Group, and the other’s are friends and family who we (somehow) managed to convince to join us on this challenge! It’s especially challenging for us, as none of us are considered prolific cyclists, or even cyclists for that matter!
The trip takes 4 days ‘in the saddle’ [editors note – we’re already starting to sound like cyclists!], and will involve switching from the left side of the road, get ready, it’s shocking, to the right side (unbelievable) However! We’re determined to succeed, and will between now and the 20th July 2022 practice regularly. We will also be posting updates of our progress on here and on social media, for anyone who is interested in following our journey

What’s The Mavam Group you ask?
Well, The Mavam Group was created in 2010, formerly known as Stepping Stones, to provide support for people to develop their daily living skills and learn to live independently, but in a way that focuses on the needs of the individual – not their diagnosis.

Since 2010, Mavam has expanded to include YLOH – a community support team of people helping people; Estates team – managing all of Mavam’s infrastructure, repairs and maintenance; Technical services; and the most recent departments the Life Learning Academy – providing knowledge and skills to help people help themselves and others to live well; and Art for Wellbeing – you guessed it – using art and compassion to help wellbeing.

And if you made it this far - first of all please consider donating, and secondly wish us luck! (we’ll need it!)
