Raising Money for an Orphanage Lagos, in Nigeria
Donation protected
Hello everyone, I am raising money to buy and install solar panels in support of Peculiar Saint orphanage, run by Mrs. Oguntoyinbo. This is an orphanage in my family’s hometown Lagos, Nigeria. Electricity is often unreliable in Nigeria, yet it is critical for communities like Peculiar Saint that rely on electricity for access to water. While the orphanage used to have a large generator, it recently broke and now they only have a much smaller one that can only be used at certain times. As a Seattle resident, I’ve seen how solar panels have been used to provide reliable, sustainable energy in homes and public utilities. Lagos, which is only 445 miles from the equator, has consistent and reliable access to the sun, making solar power a promising solution to Peculiar Saint’s energy problem. Despite this promise, there exist significant financial barriers to the organization pursuing solar technology on their own.
I’ve been able to begin to raise a significant amount of money on my own: This past summer I worked for a clinic which volunteered to match my earnings, bringing my current total to $3000 raised. However, $1000 is still needed to fund the installation of the solar panels. Rensource Energy (https://www.rensource.energy/), a Lagos-based solar energy company who will be installing the solar panels, will match this figure and provide long term maintenance.
Providing Peculiar Saint’s energy problem with solar panels will offer the children they support consistent access to electricity and water. It will also power the freezers, the security lights, irons for clothing, air conditioning, and the gas cooker. The organization further hopes to redirect its resources currently spent on petroleum to medical treatments for their children with disabilities.
Thank you greatly for your support, whether monetary or simply spreading it to wherever possible!
