Raising Steam Marathon
Welcome to my fundraiser. I am raising money for three heritage railways during lockdown.
I am going to hand crank around a 7 1/4” miniature railway to the total distance of the three railways I have chosen. They are the Llangollen, Vale of Rheidol and Keighley Worth Valley Railways. The total length of these railways is 26.75 miles.
I will be doing my marathon from 11am on Thursday the 30th of April. It will be live streamed on the Facebook page and other platforms.
Heritage railways make up a huge part of our culture and communities. They provide employment, skill development, volunteering opportunities and boost the local economy financially.
Over the winter months they spend thousands of pounds on maintenance. When they are open they hope to reclaim the money they’ve spent so they can keep the railway going. With the sudden lockdown (which is important to follow) the railways remain closed and the overheads keep having to be paid.
So I’m raising money to help with these costs, to help ensure that they can reopen when lockdown is lifted.
See my facebook page ‘Raising Steam Marathon’ to check my progress and see as I hand propel myself along a miniature railway to the total distance of the three railways.
Don’t forget you can have your own ‘Raising Steam Marathon’ and raise money for your favourite railways.
