“Nigerians are fearing hunger, not the virus” - BBC
Nigeria has always had a special place in my heart. As someone who has friends and family there, it saddens me to see the scenes of pain and suffering not only because of coronavirus but as a result of the social distancing rules. Citizens across Nigeria have been given the same advice as our government has been giving us, to stay home and avoid public spaces . But unlike us, this has led to a bigger increase in poverty, quite simply if they can’t work then they can’t feed themselves and their families. If they do work they risk contracting COVID and contributing to the spread of the potentially fatal virus.
This is why I have teamed up with Daytona 24/7 Supermarket and Lagos Food Bank Initiative to donate food packages to the vulnerable who’ll be heavily affected by COVID-19. Through this, we can help those who cannot work right now and keep safe those who might otherwise need to risk their lives to provide for their families. A small donation from you can go a long way.
Below are links to articles which have shown how this will be affecting the vulnerable in Nigeria.
