Miller's Corner Bar & Grill is a neighborhood establishment that has been just that for over 75 years. It has changed hands over the years and has now fallen into my hands. My name is Jackie Miller and I have been the owner for the past 3 years. In October 2010, I was offered the opportunity to run the place...I had no idea what I was getting myself into! Anyway, fell in love with the place so I bought it in the spring of 2012. I have been more than fortunate with my staff, we are a little family. Our place is small, therefore the staff is small. This is a joint effort with all of us, employees come in on their days off to help out, they run errands for supplies at the drop of a hat, they also come in to relax and hang out with each other.
We have had a lot of ups and downs...there have been many days when I wasnt even sure there was enough money to purchase supplies for the day. The thing is, you get in so far you can't quit, even if you wanted to.
There were too many people depending on you....staff, customers, family. Our freezer, air conditioner, furnace, beer cooler, hot water heater and deep fryer (to name a few) have all broken down at some point. Our customers have lended a helping hand many times. One guy has fixed our coolers, freezers etc. more than I can count, another one bought us a new deep fryer and let me make payments, another guy gave us a much need facelift with a fresh coat of paint. Point is, this place is special and our customers are awesome!
As I approach the 5 year mark of being in this building, i'm pretty happy with how things are turning out, i'm in debt up to my ears, but it feels good to be a part of something special. Our biggest concern right now is the roof, it leaks...a lot. The ceiling has been damaged from the water as well. The building is 99 years old, the roof is flat and has been resurfaced many many times.
It continues to leak every time it rains. We desperately need a new roof and that is something I cannot afford. Any help would be greatly appreciated by all of us!
