Rally For Baby Rhett
Donation protected
My name is Dawn Nelson. I am the owner of Rural Route One Boutique in Neligh, NE.
I have created this fundraiser for one of our sweet customers, Alyx Kurpgeweit & her family to assist in their medical & daily expenses as they have recently received devastating news for their infant son, Baby Rhett.
Alyx is not only an incredible Mom to two young children, but she’s also an LPN working part time & currently a full time nursing student pursuing her RN degree.
She and her husband, Matt, live in the Rural Sandhills of Nebraska & have been traveling to Omaha regularly for appointments for a baby Rhett & have time away from work & college.
I have created this fundraiser with Alyx’s blessing to help offer them some assistance for what will be a long difficult road in the weeks, months & years ahead.
All funds will directly go to Alyx & Rhett for their needs moving forward.
Please, if able, consider sending any donations via Venmo to help make sure they receive Maximum benefit from this fundraiser (receive 100% of donation & avoid fees.)

With Christmas coming up & frequent trips to Omaha, time off work & out of school… Finances have been tight. As we approach the Holiday Season, my hope is to relieve some of that stress with this fundraiser so they may have a blessed holiday for not only Rhett, but his older sister Wesley.
Alyx has allowed me to share her heart breaking story below. She & her sweet family appreciate any & all support you can offer.
Thank you in advance for your support.
From Alyx:
September 8th will forever have a different meaning for our little family. It is Lissencephaly awareness day, unfortunately not every state recognizes it. However, we always will.
When Rhett was around 6mo old we realized more and more that he just wasn’t developing like he should be. He wasn’t meeting the milestones of all “normal” babies. We finally got in with a neurologist and we got and MRI done of Rhett’s brain. The neurologist had initially said he’s presenting as a Cerebral Palsy baby. This is something we could deal with. When we got the MRI it showed he has what is called Lissencephaly. Lissencephaly is a 1:100,000 births occurrence. It can be genetic or totally random. It happens when during the 12th week of pregnancy the neurons don’t rise to the surface of the brain as they should. This meaning parts of his brain are smooth instead of bumpy. Of course I got these results over the portal read them myself and immediately started googling, which brought up all worse case scenarios. Fortunately for us we have THE BEST team for our little man. We continue with lots of therapies and learn as we go. We are forever thankful and so so grateful for everyone we have in our corner.
