Rally for Beheshta: Single Mother of 4 in ICU

Our community member, Beheshta Popal Kohistani, a single mother of four children (ages 7, 8, 11, and 14), had a terrible automobile accident on Sunday, January 19. Her SUV skidded on an icy road in Leesburg, VA, and hit a large tree head-on.

She was transported to Inova Loudoun, where she remained unconscious for two days and underwent major surgeries to repair the intensive and other internal organs damaged by the impact of the crash.

She remains in the ICU and is expected to be there for at least another week, followed by weeks of rehabilitation and recovery.

Her mother, who recently came as a refugee, doesn't speak any English and is not familiar with life in the US. She is now forced to take care of four children in a rental apartment in Leesburg. Soon, the rent payment and other payments will be due, but the only breadwinner of the family is incapable of earning any income in the near future, as her job with resettlement agencies was a contractor with 1099, which makes her ineligible for any type of benefits.

Luckily, she has medical insurance that will pay for her medical care, but the daily expenses of her family are not covered by any insurance. We call on the community at large to show their generosity and help us pay for the immediate living expenses of the family for a few months until Beheshta can stand on her own again and is able to take care of her family.

All proceeds will go directly to Beheshta’s bank account and will be used toward living expenses, including rent, utilities, etc. Once the funds are transferred, it will be posted in this fundraiser for transparency and accountability purposes.
