Rally for Bonnie's Healing and Recovery

My name is Kelly Finley and my Mothers name is Bonnie Finley or Wawa ( as her grandchildren call her that) She has 4 beautiful kids, 8 beautiful grandchildren and has been happily married for 41 years to Our father William ( Bill ) Finely. They met when she was 16 and he was 18.

If anyone knows Bonnie then you know she is the glue to this whole family and she will give a stranger her last penny. Going through this pain is unimaginable. She didn’t deserve this.

51 days ago on Christmas Eve we found my mother in the middle of having a stroke. She was rushed to Christ hospital. she suffered a Ischemic stroke. We were told it was not too big but not small either.. a few days later her MRI showed more stroke and then turned into Hemorrhagic stroke ( blood from an artery suddenly began bleeding into her brain).

She was in a coma/vegetative state for couple weeks at Christ hospital before they had the talk with us about what her Quality of life would be life and we had two decisions. Give up on our mother/ wife or go through with the a tracheostomy which is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the trachea (windpipe) to provide an airway for breathing. We chose to do just that.

She underwent that procedure and did so with out any complications. Towards the end of the two week stay at Christ she was able to give the nurses a thumbs up which showed that she was starting to respond to a command. That was like finding gold for us.

By week 3 she was transferred to an acute care hospital and Their weaning protocol is a set of steps to help patients transition from mechanical ventilation to breathing on their own and off the tracheotomy. She was weened completely off in three days. They were surprised to see her do that.

Because she cannot live safely at home

She will be in a short term skilled nursing rehabilitation center with the hopes that their team can help get our mom/ wife/rehabilitation therapies like physical and occupational therapy and regain mobility and independence.

Right now she cannot do anything on her own. We hit a bump in the road on Monday February 10th She was transferred to Palos hospital and Pneumonia was found. She is currently responding well with the antibiotics and they are working on getting her back to where she was previously before pneumonia.

We are asking for any donations/ help. This help with be for her rehabilitation cost once she gets back home as her insurance does not pay for any Rehabilitation. As of now she will need to be rehabilitated for every basic function.

Continued prayers for our beautiful mother/ wife / Wawa/ Rock is so much appreciated. She’s fighting like crazy and she’s doing it all for Us.

Her resilience is admirable.
