Help Save Cheryl's Global Soul Restaurant – A Beloved Local Spot

Unfortunately we have all seen too many small independently owned businesses close their doors recently. Now my restaurant is currently facing seismic challenges that are risking my ability to stay open. For 19 years, I have been the proud chef and owner of Cheryl’s Global Soul Restaurant, fulfilling my dream of creating that cozy cafe around the way. Cheryl’s has become more than just a place to eat—it’s become a cornerstone of our community, a gathering space filled with joy and laughter over shared meals. I love running my restaurant and love all the memories that I have made over the years. Whether it’s the familiar faces of my regulars enjoying their favorite dish, to birthday’s parties, anniversaries, or the first date that started it all. This Black female-owned restaurant has been a home away from home for many and an essential part of our Prospect Heights Brooklyn neighborhood. But now, we are at risk of losing it.

These are tough times as many have realized, the price of ingredients has skyrocketed, a dozen eggs going from a few dollars to you know $$$. Now, Imagine that on a restaurant scale where we go through close to a thousand eggs a week. And it’s not just eggs, the cost of butter, milk, potatoes, just about damn near everything I need to cook great wholesome foods.

We have already weathered the storm that was Covid-19 and kept our doors open at a time when it seemed much much easier to close. But even in this “new normal” things aren’t the same as they once were. Fewer people are dining in, choosing delivery instead, yet services like Grubhub and UberEats take up to a third of every order. On top of that, credit card fees, unexpected repairs, and endless red tape have made it harder than ever to stay afloat.

45.9% of American workers are employed by small businesses, that’s us, my staff/family relying upon this place for their livelihood, and I don't want to break up the band. Winter historically is the slowest time, and this one in particular has been a fight but, more than anything I'm trying to make it to better days. That's why we are launching this fundraising effort, to help navigate these difficult times. The community's love and support has always been the backbone of Cheryl's Global success, and now we need you more than ever. We truly hope that together, we can ensure that Cheryl's remains a place where memories are made and traditions continue.
