Rally for Hap's Recovery and Family Care

My name is Randi Matheson, and I am setting up this GoFundMe for Hap Schuening, his wife Shar, and their four-year-old grandson, whom they have adopted. Many of us know Hap from his years of trucking; he has always been the kind of driver who stops to help anyone in need. That spirit of generosity didn’t fade when he opened Gunsight Mountain Lodge off the Glen Highway.

Hap’s dream was to create a welcoming lodge where drivers could pull off, enjoy a decent cup of coffee, and get a good night's sleep. Since opening the lodge, he has gone above and beyond, rescuing stranded travelers and providing them shelter during bad weather. He often invites anyone in need to knock on the door, promising a warm welcome and a hot cup of coffee. He even stocks various truck parts to help keep drivers safe on the road.

Unfortunately, Hap has recently faced some significant medical challenges and is scheduled for heart surgery due to atrial fibrillation (AFib). This has left him with very little energy to maintain the lodge and care for his family, including their young grandson.

Hap and Shar have taken on the responsibility of raising their grandson, and now it’s our turn to show our appreciation and support for this wonderful family during this difficult time. I have spoken with Shar and received her blessing to create this fundraiser. I know Hap might be upset with me for doing this, but it’s something that truly needs to be done.

I have known Hap for over 20 years, and I can honestly say I have never heard anyone speak poorly of him.
