Rally for Jamo's Brain Injury Recovery
Donation protected
We wanted to let you know a little bit more about one of the greatest young men you will ever meet. Jameson "Jamo" Stayner is a brother, son, friend and teammate to many. He is the 2nd of 6 kids, with an older sister and 4 younger brothers who look up to him. He has always been an active, athletic kid. He is an aggressive skier, a 2nd degree black belt in Tai Kwan Do, though his true passion is soccer. His teammates on both his club and school teams have become his best friends and brothers.
Apart from sports, he is a great student - carrying a heavy schedule as a junior with multiple AP classes and has been preparing for the ACT. The last 2 summers, he spent several weeks on humanitarian trips providing service in Guatemala and West Virginia. Working in these remote and poor areas has brought him a better appreciation for how blessed he has been.
Many of you have heard that he suffered a traumatic brain injury playing in a soccer tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. While attempting to head the ball, he and the goalkeeper collided. He was knocked out for several minutes, and though he regained consciousness was clearly not well, and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. In the ER, we recieved the frightening news about how severe his injury may be. Head imaging showed several small acute hemorrhages deep in his brain along with a small subdural hematoma. He spent 3 days in the hospital, before doctors were reassured the bleeding had stopped. This was much more than a concussion, and we feel lucky that by the time he was discharged he was not having heachache, dizziness or other symptoms.
He is now home, and trying to get back to his normal life though at this point we still don't know how long that will take. We are hopeful that he will be able to return to the activities he loves, but are wary of the risk of returning too soon. His safe, complete recovery is our focus. We've been in contact with multiple specialists, though it is still unclear how long that may be or what other issues may arise before he is cleared. Your donations will help cover costs for CT scans, therapy and other medical expenditures. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
