Rally for Janine: Stroke & Medical Crisis
Donation protected
On Wednesday, February 19th, our world was turned upside down. My mother, Janine Mahoney, suffered a basal ganglia stroke in the occipital part of her brain, followed by a severe seizure. She called my father, saying she suddenly couldn’t see, and by the time he found her an hour later, she was unresponsive on the floor. She was rushed to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where we learned just how serious her condition was.
On top of the stroke, doctors discovered she has pancreatitis, her liver and kidneys aren’t functioning properly, and she’s suffering from an unknown degenerative brain disease. She is now in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator, and battling pneumonia. They also do expect for there to be neurological effects from her stroke, however they are unsure of the severity until she wakes up. Her condition is critical, and we are living in the hardest reality imaginable—uncertain of what the future holds for her.
As if this wasn’t already overwhelming, we recently found a letter stating that her medical insurance would be cut off on February 10th unless she submitted certain paperwork. It looks like she never saw it—probably because she wasn’t feeling well even before all of this happened. Now, we don’t even know if she still has coverage, and the mounting medical costs are terrifying to think about.
We’re doing everything we can to stay strong, but we need help. Any donation, no matter the size, will go toward her medical bills, ongoing care, and whatever treatment she may need on this long road ahead. If you’re unable to give, we completely understand, but please consider sharing this and keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, kindness, and support during this impossible time.
With love, The Mahoney Family
