Rally for Jim's Heart Transplant at Vanderbilt

On Sunday, November 24th, the Phelps family began walking through an unexpected medical trial. Jim suddenly passed out in their home and received a series of shocks from his pacemaker. After EMS arrived, he coded with CPR ensuing for 15 minutes. It’s truly a miracle that he is still with us. We’re grateful for the prayers the Lord has already answered.

Unfortunately, since that initial trip to the ER, Jim has been hospitalized multiple times. He’s undergone complex procedures including placement of a temporary heart pump, an electrical ablation, and a myriad of tests. He’s currently at Vanderbilt Hospital, one of the premier cardiology facilities in the nation. The Vandy cardiology team has deemed the best and necessary course of treatment for Jim is a heart transplant.

While this news is a surprise to us, we know it doesn’t surprise our sovereign God. And yet, the financial burden they’re now facing feels insurmountable.

On top of medical expenses, funds are needed for several more months of lost income, prolonged food & lodging in Nashville, and travel expenses as their children go back and forth. We have the privilege of coming alongside them to help shoulder this burden. They are so appreciative of the support they’ve already received from friends, family, and medical personnel.
