Rally for Rebecca: Support Her Fight Against Brain Cancer
Donation protected
I'm creating this GoFundMe on behalf of our beautiful and courageous sister, Rebecca Ten Broeck, who has been fighting an incredibly difficult battle against brain cancer, and she needs our support more than ever. Rebecca has always had such a strong and happy spirit. She has faced a series of challenges since her senior year of high school, but has never given up on her dreams and continues to show resilience in the face of adversity.
In April 2021, during her senior year, Rebecca was in a car accident. While she initially thought she was fine, persistent headaches continued for over a year. In May 2022, an MRI revealed a mass on the right side of her brain. What followed was a journey of medical tests, procedures, and an eventual diagnosis of a grade 2 astrocytoma, a benign brain tumor.
Rebecca underwent her first brain surgery on July 22, 2022. She followed up with regular MRIs every three months, and for a while, things seemed to be improving. In March 2024, she was cleared for a six-month MRI, but by September 2024, scans showed the tumor might have either recurred or scar tissue was forming. Sadly, on December 18, 2024, Rebecca was given the news that the tumor had returned.
After her second surgery on January 2, 2025, Rebecca recovered well and returned to school on January 18, 2025, but just a few days later, she received the devastating news that the tumor had now progressed to a grade 3 astrocytoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
In addition to the physical toll, Rebecca has also had to undergo fertility treatments, freezing her eggs to preserve her future plans to become a mother. The two-and-a-half-week process resulted in 23 eggs, but unfortunately, none of the treatments were covered by insurance.
Rebecca began daily radiation treatment on February 17, 2025 in Philadelphia at Penn Medicine, and started chemotherapy shortly after. Her radiation therapy is set to end on April 3, 2025, and then she will start taking a third chemotherapy pill, to begin a clinical trial for a targeted treatment that she will take daily for two years.
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Rebecca has remained strong and determined to finish her degree in psychology and elementary education, continuing her studies while fighting cancer. But this journey has come with a heavy financial burden.
Her mom has had to stop working in order to take Rebecca to her treatments, which are often far from home. Her father continues to work at home and travels to see her on the weekends. The cost of travel, gas, and hotel stays to be near medical centers has put a strain on their finances. None of the fertility treatments were covered by insurance, and the ongoing costs of Rebecca’s treatment and recovery are adding up.
Please share this page, offer a prayer, and contribute if you are able. Together, we can help Rebecca keep fighting and continue her education. Thank you for being part of her support system during this time.
