Rally for the Sweeney Family - TAKE TWO

Rally for the Sweeney Family. TAKE TWO.

My eldest sister, Marybeth, was just 14 years old when she met her husband, Tim Sweeney. I was 10 years old. We’ve all known him most of our lives. Most of us have yet to hit 50 years old. It doesn’t seem possible when I think of it in these terms. How could it be that Tim Sweeney has terminal cancer? It’s not fair. It’s not just. It feels like it simply shouldn’t be allowed. You know what blows my mind even more? He’s one of the healthiest people I know. Clean eater = √. Cross-fitter= √. Runs 5ks= √. Mountain biker = √. We know that it’s because of his active and healthy lifestyle that Tim has been an outlier with all of his cancer treatments. He fought like hell to kick the cancer, tackling it with diet and education and the best team of doctors at the helm. Despite this, the cancer has prevailed.

In March of 2022, not too long after receiving clean scans, Tim found himself back at his oncologist. The cancer had returned, this time finding its way to his stomach lining. He resumed treatments almost immediately and continued to press on with the regular comings and goings of life – back to work in film, transforming his yard into a backyard oasis, etc. - not wanting cancer to be center stage.

In March of this year, things took a grimmer turn as they discovered a blockage/tumor which required another surgery. Since then, Tim has not been able to work as the recovery has been ongoing - and now, the cancer is rearing its ugly head more aggressively than ever before. As of today, Marybeth has taken family medical leave from her job as the cancer is progressing and time is not on their side.

Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover everything. Vacation and sick time get blown through so quickly. Family medical leave is unpaid. Bills still pile up; the mortgage still needs to be paid and lights need to stay on. We think there should be a medical bills fairy that takes care of these worries, but since she has yet to leave a surprise under their pillows, we, his sister-in-laws and his sister, are asking for your financial help to support the Sweeneys. Together we can rally and at the very least alleviate the financial burden from the Sweeney family, and let them focus their time, attention and energy on their father and husband, Tim.
