Rally fundraiser
We are Decolonize Davenport — a group of residents living in Toronto's west-end neighbourhood looking to change the narrative around what it means to live in Toronto.
On Labour Day we're planning a rally in the community, to bring organizers, activists, and residents together and imagine how public land can serve our communities, how we can house those in need, and how we can build democratic workplaces that serve the people.
The funds raised on this GoFundMe will go toward paying an honorarium to all the speakers and folks involved, it will cover expenses associated with the rally such as outreach material, audio equipment, water bottles and PPE, and security.
The rally is taking place at 5:00 pm on Monday, September 7th. You can learn more about it here https://www.facebook.com/events/s/our-davenport-rally/322367522301499
All remaining funds will go towards creating outreach and public education materials associated with our efforts to Decolonize Davenport. To remain accountable to our community we publish an outline of how are funding is spent, you can visit our linktree (https://linktr.ee/DecolonizeDavenport) and see a financial report and other resources.
These donations are not tax deductible.
Thank you.
ABOUT US
The public health emergency in 2020 has laid bare the gaps that exist in our communities: from underpaid essential workers, an economy unprepared for a viral pandemic, families on the brink of financial calamity, to a food chain dependent on foreign workers.
We have used the pandemic as an opportunity to bring people together around mutual aid principles, imagining and discussing how much better our community can be if we build the relationships and systems of change that enable us to live more autonomous and interdependent lives.
We successfully brought together more than 600 neighbours this summer to lay out a vision of community care and enhanced public services amid the call to defund the police. In July, we hosted a workshop about our legal rights when it com
to dealing with the police and demanding change. We are organising a self defence workshop to empower women, femme and BIPOC to feel safer in our community.
Today, we're asking for your support as we build towards a new future in Davenport.
