Friends and Family Rally Around Brad Spillers
Brad Spillers suffered a stroke on Sunday, June 2nd. He was attending a wedding in Chandler, AZ, and was scheduled to return home to Katy, TX later that day.
Brad was able to call 911 and was quickly transported to the hospital. While in the hospital, the next day, he suffered another stroke. His wife Holly was already on her way to Arizona from Texas when this second stroke occurred. This stroke caused more damage.
It’s been two weeks now of small recoveries and small setbacks. The stroke occurred in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that coordinates voluntary movements such as posture, balance, coordination, speech, swallowing, and breathing. Brad currently has no balance, cannot walk, has slightly impaired speech, and his left arm lacks coordination. The most critical thing that was affected was his ability to swallow voluntarily, which has caused a blockage of fluid, not allowing air to properly get down into his lungs.
Brad has been in the ICU in Arizona for two weeks now. Most of that time, he has been fully sedated on a ventilator. He’s been able to respond to voice commands and questions with the nod of his head. The doctors are not certain of the full extent of the affects from the strokes, due to keeping him sedated.
As we were creating this GoFundMe page, on June 15th, Brad was given a tracheotomy. The doctors are hoping with this procedure that Brad will be able breath better, thus stabilizing his oxygen levels, providing enough stability to fly him back to a Houston area hospital by a medical transport jet.
Many of you have asked what we can do to assist.
First, we are asking for your prayers. We are believing for a miracle and to turn this story around!
Secondly, we don’t know how long it will take Brad to stabilize for transport, and most uncertain, we have no idea how long it will take Brad to recover. The doctors’ best guess is months to a year. They are hopeful there will be a close to full recovery, but as with any stroke that is uncertain, and unknown. With Holly staying in Arizona, the everyday expenses continue to increase as she is living out of a hotel room. In addition, there is the insane cost to fly Brad home which is not covered by insurance. Medical transport has been arranged by the Arizona hospital, at a cost of $24,000.
Currently, Brad and Hollys’ two boys (Bromley and Cameron) are currently with Holly’s mom in Katy, TX. Brad and Holly own and operate a business and have an amazing team that is covering for their absence as best they can. However, it will be up to Holly to run the business for the uncertain future.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to lessen the financial burden of Brad’s unexpected strokes. Any way you can help this amazing family that is loved by our community near and far will be greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate at this time, please share with as many people as you can, and please.... keep Brad, Holly and their two boys in your thoughts and prayers! ❤️
