Ralph's 24-Hour Bicycle Ride for Polio

Donation protected
Ralph Zuke, member of Rotary International's local St. Louis Club 11 and the founder of St. Louis Civilians Rotary Club, is an avid bike rider.  He also believes in Rotary's mission to combat and eradicate the poliovirus worldwide.

What is Rotary?
Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

What is Polio?
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. The virus spreads from person to person and can infect a person's spinal cord, causing paralysis (can't move parts of the body).

Did you know?
The polio vaccine only costs about $2.80 (more or less) per dose.  So, if we reach our goal of $5000, 1785 doses can be administered where most needed and can help to greatly curb the spread of the virus.  ALSO, for every dollar we raise, the Gates Foundation kicks in $2, tripling the # of kids vaccinated!

Ralph's Ride
To that end, Ralph wants to combine both of his passions into one extraordinary feat: In order to train himself for a longer bike ride to Houston in 2022 (a roughly 775-mile ride), Ralph wants to do a 24-hour bike ride in St. Louis to raise awareness of Rotary AND Polio. He will primarily be riding in and around Forest Park in St. Louis on June 4, 2021, from midnight to midnight. But you might see him riding around the city up until then as he trains.

This event will also serve as a fundraiser for End Polio Now. His goal is to hit 150 miles, roughly 1/5 of the Houston ride, but if you ask Ralph directly he'll tell you he wants to go for 200!
