Ramirez and his street dogs
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Sage. I am starting a gofund me to spread awareness & help a man and his 50 rescue dogs I met while in Mexico, who is in desperate need of help.
Please take a moment to read the story of Ramirez and his efforts to save all of the street dogs in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This is a very touching yet upsetting read, so bear with me!
Anything you may be able to donate will greatly help, even just $1.

I was recently on vacation, exploring downtown when I saw a man on a shopping cart being pulled by 6 dogs. I walked over to him to ask about his dogs. He gave me the time of day and started telling me his story.
His name is Ramirez, he is a 64 year old native to Mexico. His has 2 children who live in Canada. Ramirez is a dog trainer who also does gardening, painting, yard work & trash pickup to make a living. For the past 20 years he has been slowly but surly rescuing all of the street dogs from downtown Cabo. At one point in time he had every street dog off the streets downtown. He has successfully gotten over 200 dogs rescued, cared for, and rehomed to adoptees within the USA and Canada using this method. He keeps track of each dog, and family.
- His routine is as follows- he starts work at 4am doing anything he can to make money that day, walks to and from (he does not own a car) downtown, and San Jose to check on his dogs & parents during the day. By sundown he ventures back into downtown with a rotation of his dogs (who pull him on a shopping cart a couple of miles into the city) stands at the corner, in hopes of finding homes from tourists, locals, ect. for his rescue dogs. If he finds someone who is in Cabo for vacation, he goes through the legal process with them, takes them to a friend who is a vet for paperwork, and the dogs then go home with the new owner, back to the states or Canada in the plane. He keeps tabs on his rescues for years on end after being re-housed. He will look for any dogs in need each night he is downtown, if he finds one, he will take them back to his housing area in the shopping cart. He repeats this daily.
Animal cruelty is very bad in Mexico, they treat dogs as if they are nothing especially downtown.
He has been a one man operation for 20 plus years. Without the help of any social media, only his time and words. He has responded to very upsetting situations of abused dogs, some who have been hit by cars, some shot- one of his current dogs was shot in the head & leg, then left for dead when he found her. If the dogs he finds need medical attention, he walks to the vet immediately. He has had to pay for immediate surgery and rehabs with a lot of his rescues. He trains each one of the dogs, teaching them to not fight with eachother, to listen on command, walk without a leash, he has properly trained dogs most people would give up on. His dogs are trained to pull the shopping cart with him, and his gun shot puppy in it. I spent about 3 hours with him & learned just how much this man cares for animals, and as he described it “these dogs are the only thing in life that will love you more then they love themselves.”
He supports all of these dogs on his own income, shares his plates of food, cooks them meals everyday, loves them more than he loves himself. These dogs get a second chance at life because of him. Ramirez has spent thousands caring for these dogs over the past 20 years, and it has become his one and only hobby.
I kept in touch with him and quickly learned his living situation. He needs HELP. He is living in a small community, his house consists of tents, tires & doors he made himself and his dogs as a form of shelter. A hurricane hit back in 2019 and destroyed his home, he has slowly rebuilt it. He sleeps on a dirt floor meanwhile his dogs sleep on tire beds he made them. He shares this living situation with his parents who are sick and all of his animals. I asked him how I can help if funds were available to him. He said if he had more money, his dream of an organization and a better area to live for his family & his rescues would be possible.

My mission is to help support him, in any way I can. PLEASE CONSIDER donating! Please help me change this man’s life. If anyone deserves something, it’s him and his pups. My family is putting together a team to go to Mexico and volunteer to help him. If we raise enough funds, my father who is a carpenter, will be able to build him something much nicer then tents and doors.

I have never been so astonished by a strangers story before, and with the help of donations, I want to give him the life he deserves. He is barely making ends meet, and all his money goes straight to his dogs. We need more people like him in this cruel world. The love he has to give, is amazing. Anything will help.
