Ramon Smith Battle Against Crohn's Disease
Donation protected
As a lot of you know, Ramon (Ray) has been battling Crohn's disease for over half his life (30+ years). Over time, it has taken a devastating toll on his body, but recently it has taken a turn for the worse. As you may have seen on his recent Facebook posts, he has been willing to share more details about the struggle he's been going through. Over the last year, he has been hospitalized more than usual with week-long stays in November 2019 and May 2020, and now is on day 20 and counting on his current visit. He has had 4 surgeries so far which included Stoma/Colostomy, Intestinal Resection, and most recently an Opening and Drainage created to deal with a continuously flowing infection. Treatment of the disease involved IV medications such as Remicade, Humira, and Cimzia. Due to antibody buildup resistance to these medications, the next medication needed is Stolera. It also involves a heavy steady dose of pain pills, antibiotics, and steroids. Because his body has been taking such a long, continuous onslaught from this disease, it is no longer healing itself in a normal timeframe. Through it all Ray still pushes forward.
Everyone who knows Ray, knows that he keeps a smile on his face and a positive attitude, and doesn’t usually share the negative details of his constant Crohn’s struggle. He tries to be the best father/grandfather/friend that he can be. He’s a good man. Ray usually doesn't ask for help. We had a successful GoFundMe for Ray 9 years ago, but the struggle has never ceased since then. In fact, it has steadily escalated to this point where we’re coming to family and friends to help in his fight once again.
We know times are really hard for everyone during this Pandemic. Any Donations will be greatly appreciated.
