Ramona Jan Needs a Miracle

Please stand with my mother as she fights for her life against third-stage cervical cancer.

In 2018, my mom, Ramona Jan, was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. After treatment, she went into remission. However, Cervical Cancer has a propensity to come back and hers did with a vengeance as it has now spread to other areas of her body. She is currently at an advanced inoperable stage. The situation is urgent.

You may know her as founder and volunteer director of Yarnslingers (the “people who tell fantastic true stories” for audiences throughout the Catskills); or as a columnist for the Sullivan County Democrat; or as a puppeteer, music and art teacher. In the 1970’s, she was one of the first female audio engineers as well as a punk rocker about whom The Ramones wrote the song, Sweet Little Ramona. My mom has performed at CBGB’s, Max’s Kansas City, Peppermint Lounge and many other famous clubs.

Our family is evaluating options to determine what is best for her. The cancer clinics that offer the best treatment with the most likelihood of survival require travel, an extended stay, and repeat visits. While some of the treatments may be covered by health insurance, most of it is not. Our goal of $72,000 will cover all visits (initial and follow-up), travel expenses and the much needed at-home aftercare to prevent this insidious disease from recurring.
