RampAttak Skatepark Revival in Ipswich

Donation protected
WE NEED YOUR HELP

Hi, my name is Wayne, and I am fundraising for the kids and people of South East Queensland to get RampAttak Indoor Skatepark open in Ipswich. Due to the long drawn-out process through Ipswich City Council, our funds have been completely drained. Your support will allow us to continue to chase after the evening sessions (6pm-9pm) seven days a week for the doors to be open to everyone.
RampAttak is vital to so many riders throughout the South East Queensland area. It provides a supervised, safe space to comfortably ride, feel welcomed, improve your skills and socialise with others.

DONATIONS

Your donations will go immediately towards ongoing works and costs involved with getting RampAttak open as soon as possible.
We appreciate all your support and assistance to help bring this facility back to the community and we can get going once we have the approvals from Ipswich City Council to go ahead.

When submitting your infomation, please include your full name in the first name box, and phone number in the last name box as a reference with your donations.

Due to the purpose of donations, RampAttak will immediately use these funds in our best efforts to open the doors as soon as possible. We will not give refunds under any circumstance.

We are looking for some help from skilled people. If you have professional experience in the areas of plumbing/toilet systems, electrical, concreting, firealarm systems, bobcat work, online sales and are prepared to donate your time and services, email us, and we can discuss thanks.

Riders, this is your skatepark! It is being built for you! This is a special place for so many in the action sports community. This is the BEST WAY YOU CAN HELP to continue the survival of RampAttak. Let's get it open!

BRIEF HISTORY

RampAttak Indoor Skatepark started in 2009 for the action sports community in South East Queensland (SEQ). It filled a much-needed void for beginners to feel welcome in a friendly controlled environment, for regular riders to have a home, for talented athletes to progress to an elite level, and for older people/families to meetup up and enjoy socialising.
It was built for 'the people' who celebrated the facility in large numbers which then created a massive community of riders who claimed it as their own. So it was truly devastating to everyone when the doors were closed in early 2020 due to CoVid19 restrictions.

We have been on the hunt ever since to find a suitable facility to reopen the indoor skatepark to the same high quality as the previous one with added improvements. In early 2021 we found a location in Ipswich which had synergy with the local area. In April 2021, we had a pre-lodgement meeting with Ipswich City Council (ICC) to discuss the proposed move. All council members were in huge favour and welcomed the idea of us making a move to the area. So over the next 6 months, we went to work to tick all the boxes to get the Material Change of Use (MCU) approved on the facility. All the wood, ramps and materials were moved out to the site in seven 40ft shipping containers.

In November 2021 we ran into a problem with the sound report not being adequate for the local environmental officer to approve the MCU. We spent the next 2 months trying to rectify this situation, by doing a second set of expensive decibel readings and sound checks to have the report accepted. But to no avail.

At this point, ICC informed us that it would allow us to open from 9am-6pm, 7 days a week, but would not allow the evening 6pm-9pm session to operate.
This was obviously not acceptable. RampAttak could never proceed or survive under these conditions. The 6pm-9pm session is essential for users of the facility to be able to enjoy riding after work and after school.

Since then, we've been jumping through hoops to try and demonstrate to ICC that RampAttak is an asset to the community and that it is suitable to run at night like any other indoor sports venue. Justifying this has been an expensive process. It included: re-modelling the sound report again and again; ICC also hired an independent consulting group to assess the noise report, which added more confusion. We then canvassed most politicians in the area to discuss our predicament and where we stood at that point in time.

After initially being welcomed by the ICC in a process that typically takes less than 6 months to get approval to open, RampAttak has been jumping through hoops for nearly a year and a half now. Which is way too long for any small business to survive.

The extended time has drawn out this long process resulting in phenomenal excessive setup costs. These have entirely drained all of RampAttaks funds and our family's life savings just to stay afloat while waiting in the hope for the evening session from 6pm-9pm to be approved.

RampAttaks closing has hurt everyone in the action sports community over the past 2 years. It brings so much joy and good to everyone in the community and is why we are pushing so hard to bring it back for you.. but now we need your help.

WHY WE ARE FUNDRAISING

Ramp Attak has always been a safe and friendly environment for people to come and enjoy their action sport comfortably under staff supervision.Skating/riding can be dangerous and needs a safe space to practice. RampAttak has always filled that void for the community.

We are fundraising so all riders and anyone in the SEQ community can continue to have this unique asset/world-class facility in their backyard.

We're fundraising to ensure the 6pm-9pm session is available to all patrons.
Help and donations are needed now to be able to fast track getting the doors open for everyone to ride.

HOW DONATIONS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

There are several ongoing costs and jobs to be completed before the doors open that your donations will directly contribute to.

On-going costs include;
  • paying the rent each month
  • paying the insurance each month
  • Legal fees
  • storage and container hire
  • wages
  • new government reports along with conditions that need to be filled

Jobs to be completed include;
  • building more ramps for the skatepark
  • improved lighting and electrical for good filming
  • building an acoustic fence as a sound barrier along the front fenceline
  • back to base fire alarm system
  • concreting
  • marked parking bays
  • upgrades to the toilet plumbing system
  • other maintenance and building improvements

CONCLUSION

Not having RampAttak in the past two years has hurt the skating, bmx, scootering and blading communities. This indoor space provides so much value and you have been waiting far too long for this to re-open. It's been hard, but with your support, we can still move forward and reopen RampAttak up again for you soon.
