Ramping Up Our Life
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shanda. I recently crushed a major goal and was able to purchase a home for my two daughters and me. My daughters are non-ambulatory, wheelchair users. So, moving from your typical, Boston, 3-family apartment -- with 38 stairs to navigate in and out -- over to a house with 4 stairs has been a relief that I cannot begin to describe.
Now, that we are in our home, the ultimate goal is to support my daughters, as they grow older, to achieve as much independence as they can. While there is widespread work to be done in and around the house to increase access, key to realizing this goal is purchasing and installing a wheelchair ramp for immediate access in and out of our home. While my girls are growing beautifully, having to carry them in and out has started to take a physical toll on me as well. So, to be frank and transparent, the sooner we are able to purchase the ramp, the easier that aspect of life will be.
I have amazing coverage, but this is not a purchase that is covered by insurance. Any/all funds received via this GoFundMe will go towards making our home accessible. If we hit the 5K goal, all funds will go directly to the purchase and installation of the wheelchair ramp. If we surpass the 5K goal, the excess funds will go toward making the inside of our home more accessible and beyond that (if possible) making the backyard a safe and accessible place for the girls to play.
I thank you in advance for your support, no matter the amount. A little goes a LONG way! <3
