Greetings from the Digital Harbor Rams Soccer teams! Digital Harbor is a public high school in Baltimore City. Our students are incredibly diverse; our soccer team represents over 15 different nations from across 5 continents.
Recent overturn in the district’s department of interscholastic athletics as well as a major overhaul of state funding to Baltimore City has left most sports programs fending for themselves. Ours is no exception. With our budget slashed, we are reaching out to generous donors to help us fund our program with basic necessities like soccer balls and uniforms.
Last year, we began the season with 9 soccer balls for 42 kids, but still managed to stay competitive with private schools and more affluent counties. When we compete with these wealthier communities, the disparity is palpable. Our boys are amazing and talented, but the resource gap is undeniable, even to them. By the end of the season the supplies that remained were barely enough to run scrimmages.
As coaches, it has always been our goal to instill in our players a sense of pride and commitment. Many of our student-athletes face adversity and struggle in their private lives making it even more crucial that they take ownership of something positive. Our lack of resources, and compromised field time frustrates our students. Please help us build a program that fosters dignity and honor rather than bitterness and resentment.
We've put together a short list of items that could easily be achieved with even the most reasonable donations.
$10 replaces shin guards, socks, whistles, stop watches and other basic coaching equipment
$20 buys a new pair of uniform shorts or practice pinnies for the whole team
$30 could buy a NFHS approved game ball for matches
$50 purchases new cleats for our students who can't afford them or pop up goals for practice and drills
$75 replaces one of our stained or ripped uniforms
$100 can provide us with a set of 5 practice balls
We believe our monetary goals are modest, but the lasting impact is immeasurable. Anything we achieve above and beyond this benchmark gives us the seed money to manage our own fundraising in the future. Your contributions will help us take the first step toward achieving these goals!
