Support the Ramthun Family

Jack and Monica Ramthun joined the Kingstowne Communion and had their boys, Linden and Judah, baptized in our church in 2022. On behalf of and in support of this beloved family, the Kingstowne Communion (their church home) has setup a Go Fund Me, as a way for the church and Jack and Monica's wider circle of support to offer help in what is a very challenging time.

Earlier this year, Jack started having some concerning issues with his legs. They originally thought it might be related to a tick bite he received in the fall, and they thought that they were possibly dealing with Lyme disease, even though he had tested negative.

In early April, Jack started to have really concerning symptoms that culminated with a trip to the emergency department in Front Royal. After evaluation, they promptly transported him to Inova Fairfax for critical care related to liver failure; and over the course of April and May, Jack had three 7-day hospital stays to manage his complications.

In June, they finally got to meet with a liver specialist, who confirmed liver failure and referred them to the Georgetown Hospital Transplant Team, who they are scheduled with for an initial, intensive evaluation on August 9. After this evaluation, the team will determine if Jack is a good candidate for a transplant. If so, he’ll be added to the transplant list and the waiting begins; and in the meantime, they have weekly appointments in Fairfax to manage his complications so he’s comfortable.

Unfortunately, around the same time Jack started having complications, he had just started a new job; and having not been employed yet for at least 12 months, he didn't have any job protections. The company denied his leave request and terminated him in early July.

They are actively trying to get Jack qualified for disability, but currently they are adjusting to being a single income family, navigating this new distressing normal with two toddlers, doctors appointments 45+ minutes away from home, and mounting medical debt.
