Hello all, Today has been one of the hardest days of my life. As some of you know my dad Randy Havins has been battling Glioblastoma Cancer (or GBM) Stage 4 Since January 27, 2022.
Dad’s Cancer Journey:
On January 27th, 2022 my dad woke up feeling fine. No Symptoms of any kind at all. When he tried to get up out of bed he almost fell due to left sided weakness. He had a hard time getting around the house that day. By evening I called 911. He was admitted to Hendrick North with a possible stroke. The team of doctors ruled stroke out fast. When they did an MRI they find a tumor in his frontal cortex.
From their he had a brain biopsy. Which lead to the Glioblastoma diagnoses.
Next We stayed a month at Hendrick Rehabilitation Center to learn how to walk, & transfer. After 3-4hrs a day of therapy he had some feeling back in his left side. We were able to start Chemo and Radiation while at HCR.
March 14th for a few weeks we were able to go home and finish up chemo, and radiation as an outpatient.
On March 29th was our last sessions to both chemo & radiation. 3 days later on April 2nd, 2022 we were admitted back into Hendrick North ER with pneumonia & sepsis.
2 weeks into our stay at the hospital we were transferred once again to Hendrick Rehabilitation Center for Physical Therapy.
While there dad had a central line in place for IV meds that got infected. They did a TEE test, & MRI again. The test for the TEE came back good. The MRI results weren’t as good as we hoped for. Another PICC line was inserted. The PICC line placement chest X-ray showed a collapsed lung.
Last Thursday we were discharged from the rehab center only to get admitted again to HMC this time for the collapsed lung issue. A chest tube was inserted.
Dad had a lot of pain from the chest tube insertion, cancer, and back pain. Even though the chest tube was only in for a few days it was very painful for him. On Thursday of this week (2days ago) Dad, Rhonda, and I made the decision for him to be placed on Hospice.
Our hospice plan was to be admitted once again only to hospice for a few days to get pain managed. Then go home on hospice.
Early this morning dad took a turn for the worse and I had to make the choice of him being a DNR.
As you can imagine these last 4 months have been HELL for all of us.
All the medical bills have been and will be piling up. Not to mention the funeral cost.
I’m starting this go fund me not for myself, but for my dad. A man who has dedicated his life to helping others in their time of need. A person who is well liked and loved in our hometown. The money raised will go towards medical bills that the insurance hasn’t or won’t cover. And unfortunately ultimately funeral cost as well.
My dad is truly man of God who is a true example of the Fruits of the Spirit. Please donate if you can anything would be welcomed.
Visitors are Welcomed at this time. We are at the Hospice center in room #103. If anyone would like to come visit/say goodbye you are welcome to do so.
Thank you for reading this long post, take care, and God Bless. The Havins Family.
